The Thomas Knot
ROBERT THOMAS (1714-1821) and MOSES E. THOMAS (1740-1818) were half-brothers, sons of ROBERT THOMAS III (1690-1768.)
Robert's grandson, JOHN WILLIAM THOMAS (1786-1873) married Moses's granddaughter, SUSANNAH THOMAS (1793-1864). John William Thomas and Susannah Thomas had a daughter, FANNIE JANE THOMAS, who married PRESLEY THOMAS, son of Joseph Thomas - a possibly related Thomas line. I have not found that link yet, if it exists. So, both Susannah and Fannie (her daughter) had the maiden name and married name of Thomas, which made an interesting knot to unravel.
To make matters worse, there are two JOHN WILLIAM THOMASes to contend with: JOHN WILLIAM THOMAS (1786-1873) was the son of William Thomas and Keziah Jane Sanders; JOHN WILLIAM THOMAS (1833-1900) was the son of Presley Thomas and Fannie Jane Thomas. JOHN WILLIAM THOMAS (1786-1873) was the grandfather of JOHN WILLIAM THOMAS (1833-1900).
