Quoad Sacra Parishes in the City of Edinburgh:
Abbey. Disjoined from Greenside and South Leith, and erected into a parish quoad sacra, January 1876.
Buccleuch. Proposed 1754 as a Chapel-of-Ease to St Cuthbert's (in place of "The Little Kirk" built in 1593 as an additional church at the west end of the Pre-Reformation church of St Cuthbert, and destroyed by the Ironside of Cromwell 1650), built 1755, and opened 1756. Declared a parish quoad sacra by Act of Assembly, 31 May 1834.
Craiglockhart. Erected into a parish quoad sacra 10 December 1897, out of the parish of St Cuthbert, and the Slateford district of the parish of Colinton.
Dean. First church opened by Dr Chalmers, 15 May 1836; disjoined from St Cuthbert's and declared a parish quoad sacra by the General Assembly, 30 May 1836. Erected into a parish quoad sacra by the Court of Teinds in 1870. A new church was opened, 30 May 1903.
Lady Glenorchy's. Founded by Willielma Campbell, Viscountess Glenorchy, October 1772; opened 8 May 1774. After a protracted litigation Roxburgh Place Chapel was purchased in 1856, and a parish quoad sacra was created by the Court of Teinds on 2 July 1862. New church and halls were built 1909-12, and opened 10 December 1913.
Mayfield. A church was opened 6 Jul 1879; disjoined from Liberton and erected into a parish quoad sacra 12 March 1888.
Morningside. Declared a parish quoad sacra by the General Assembly, 19 May 1838; disjoined from St Cuthbert's and erected by the Court of Teinds, 20 July 1864.
Murrayfield. Disjoined from West Coates and Craiglockhart, and erected into a parish quoad sacra 6 June 1913.
Newington. Formerly Hope Park Chapel-of-Ease under St Cuthbert's; opened 4 January 1834; declared a parish quoad sacra by Act of General Assembly 31 May 1834; named Newington, and erected by the Court of Teinds, 18 March 1859.
Prestonfield. Disjoined from Liberton, Duddingston, and Mayfield, and erected into a parish quoad sacra, 30 October 1908. A church was built in 1902.
Robertston Memorial, or Grange. Erected into a parish quoad sacra 30 October 1871. The foundation stone was laid 28 May 1870, and the building was opened 1 October 1874, as a memorial of James Robertson, D.D., Professor of Ecclesiastical History in Edinburgh University.
St Aidan's. The building, constructed about 1800 as a chapel of Relief, was bought from the United Presbyterian Church by St Cuthbert's congregation in 1885. Erected into a parish quoad sacra, 14 March 1887.
St Bernard's. Formerly Stockbridge Chapel-of-Ease. A committee of Kirk-session of St Cuthbert's parish reported in 1822 that the population in the northern districts amounted to over 5000, but the total number of seats in any place of worship was only 1954. The Session resolved to build a chapel at Stockbridge. The building was opened on 16 November 1823; declared a parish quoad sacra 31 May 1834, named St Bernard's, and erected by the Court of Teinds, 19 November 1851.
St David's. Formerly Gardner's Crescent Chapel under St Cuthbert's; opened 29 May 1831. Declared a parish quoad sacra 30 May 1836, and named St David's. Erected by the Court of Teinds, 6 July 1875. A new church was built in 1912, and the parish extended 31 May 1912.
St James's. Disjoined form St Cuthbert's and erected into a parish quoad sacra, 6 July 1891. Church built in 1895.
St Leonard's. The first church, opened 6 April 1879, was destroyed by fire on the morning 21 November of the same year. A new church was erected, and opened 21 May 1880, and the district formed into a parish quoad sacra in 1884.
St Luke's. A church in Young Street, originally a Unitarian chapel, was purchased by the Kirk-session of St George's in 1834, and rebuilt. It was open for public worship 28 May 1837. In 1843 the minister, the twelve elders, and the trustees joined the Free Church, retaining possession of the building. They were, however, ejected on 4 March 1849, and services in connection with the Church of Scotland were resumed. The parish was erected by the Court of Teinds, 11 February 1863. The district then having become depopulated, a new church was built at Comely Bank, and opened 10 October 1908. The old parish was reannexed to St George's, and the new parish (taken chiefly from the Dean and partly from St Bernard's) was erected by decree of the Court of Teinds on 6 February 1909.
St Margaret's. Disjoined from St Cuthbert's and erected into a parish quoad sacra 1885. A church was opened in 1881.
St Matthew's. An iron church was opened on 11 November 1883. The foundation stone of the present building was laid 1 June 1888, and the church was dedicated 2 May 1890. Erected into a parish quoad sacra 9 July 1909, composed entirely of the south part of Morningside parish quoad sacra, and all in the original parish of St Cuthbert's.
St Michael's. In 1876 a temporary mission church was built at the corner of Angle Park Terrace. In 1881 the foundation stone of the present church was laid, and on 2 December 1883, it was opened. Disjoined form St Cuthbert's and erected into a parish quoad sacra by decree of the Court of Teinds, 14 March 1887.
St Oran's (Gaelic Parish). Originally the Gaelic and English Chapel-of-Ease, Edinburgh, declared a parish quoad sacra by Act of Assembly, 31 May 1834, and re-erected by the Court of Teinds 27 November 1850. The original chapel, of which no trace remains, was built in the Castle Wynd in 1789. In 1815 a chapel in Horse Wynd belonging to the Gaelic and English congregation was acquired, and occupied until 1877, when the church in Broughton Street was purchased from the Catholic Apostolic congregation.
St Oswald's. Opened 12 October 1890, the original iron church being known as St Mark's. A new church was dedicated 24 June 1900, and a parish quoad sacra, under the designation of St Oswald's, was erected 8 March 1907. Disjoined from St Cuthbert's.
St Serf's. Disjoined from St Cuthbert's, St Bernard's, and Newhaven, and erected into a parish quoad sacra by decree of the Court of Teinds, 1 November 1912.
St Stephen's. Erected into a parish by the Town Council 26 November 1828; concurred in by the Presbytery, 10th, and opened 21st December, same year.
Tynecastle. Church built in 1901; disjoined from St Cuthbert's and erected into a parish quoad sacra by decree of the Court of Teinds, 5 July 1912.
West Coates. Disjoined from St Cuthbert's and erected into a parish quoad sacra 5 June 1871. A church was built in 1868-69, and opened in January 1870.
